The Gap Theory :: A Recipe for Theological Jello

The “Gap Theory” is a theory that millions of years transpired between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2-31. There are many problems with this theory. First of all, it is a result of trying to “fit” scientific theories about the age of the earth and about the extinction of the dinosaurs, among others, into the Bible. We must be careful not to fall into this practice of trying to fit different theories into the Bible in order to explain the world around us. The Bible tells us everything we need to know about the origin of the earth as well as the origin of all the creatures of the earth, whether they are extinct are not, and yes I mean dinosaurs too. We need to start from the Bible, rather than theories, trust what the Bible says is true, and use our God-given ability to think and the answers become very clear. When we can do this, we can find other fundamental flaws with the Gap Theory (as well as other theories). And what does the Bible say? It says that it was because of the sin of Adam that death entered into the world:

Genesis 3:19 By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We need to stand firm on the perfect, unchanging Word of God, rather than trying to mix in man’s imperfect, always changing opinions:
