In a previous post, I posed the question: How does boasting in the cross, glorifying God, and enjoying Him forever tie to God glorifying God? I showed how the two relate in this statement:
We were created for God’s glory. God’s ultimate purpose for creating the universe is the manifestation of His glory for the everlasting enjoyment of His people. In order for us to enjoy God in all His Glory, His Majesty must tasted or seen. So God glorifies God by revealing Himself and His most excellent worth to us.
This is how our boasting in the cross and our glorifying God as our ultimate joy ties into God glorifying Himself. Our boasting, our glorifying, our joy, is all a response to God glorifying Himself by revealing His glory to us in many ways. In the first post in this series, I wrote about how God does this through revealing Himself in His word, His creation, and our conscience. In this post I am going to write about how God glorifies God by revealing Himself through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Hebrews chapter one talks about how in the past in many ways, God revealed Himself through His word by the prophets but in these last days, he spoke to us by His Son:
Hebrews 1:1-2 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, (2) but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
And John chapter one talks about God who became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory:
John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (2) He was in the beginning with God. (3) All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made…. John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
The glory of God was also seen in the many mighty works, healings and miracles he preformed:
Acts 2:22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know–
2nd Corinthians chapter four tells how God gave us the knowledge of the glory of God in the person of Jesus Christ:
2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
In 1st John, the apostle tells how eternal life was made manifest to us through Jesus and our joy is complete in Him:
1 John 1:1-4 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life– (2) the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us– (3) that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. (4) And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
Most importantly, God showed His glory through His Son through His plan of redemption in the death, burial, and ressurection of Jesus Christ. It is because of the cross we are not destined to wrath but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ and through Jesus, God has reconciled to himself all things, making peace by the blood of the cross:
1 Thessalonians 5:9-10 For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, (10) who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him.
Colossians 1:13-20 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, (14) in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. (15) He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. (16) For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities–all things were created through him and for him. (17) And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. (18) And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. (19) For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, (20) and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
And since we have obtained salvation unto eternal life we hope in the glory of God; meaning that in Christ our hope is found, the hope that we will one day see the appearing of the glory of God when he calls us home:
Titus 2:11-13 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, (12) training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, (13) waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ
And it is in this hope we rejoice in:
Romans 5:1-2 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. (2) Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
When we rejoice in this hope, God is glorified because we are looking foward to the ultimate joy that will we obtain by being in the prescence of God and His glory. So God glorifies God by revealing Himself through his Son in whom we obatain salvation unto eternal life by faith which allows us to rejoice in the hope of the glory of God!
In the next part of this series, I will cover how God glorifies God through revealing to us His Holy Spirit.
Soli Deo Gloria!
